 On Wednesday, July 24, 2013, a workshop to present the zoning plan for the Croix-des-Bouquets commune was held at Palm Events, above Petion-Ville, in the presence of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Attorney Jean Tholbert Alexis; Secretary of State for the Revitalization of Agricultural Production, Agronomist Vernet Joseph; Director General of the Ministry of the Environment, Mrs. Nicole Altidor; Director General of the National Bureau of Land Registry (ONACA), Attorney Fritz Gérald Chéry; Mayor of Croix-des-Bouquets, Eveline Balan; Deputy Director of the Feed The Future West/WINNER project, Mario Kerby; as well as the presence of representatives of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for Territorial Development (CIAT) and members of civil society.

Croix-des-Bouquest Mayor Eveline Balan—who was a close follower of the groundwork leading to the elaboration of the zoning plan for the Commune—welcomed the participants and offered a special thank you to USAID for having accompanied the Municipal Council of Croix-des-Bouquets throughout the process via the FTF West/WINNER project: “Now, the task is to continue this process by applying the sufficient measures needed to improve the quality of life in the Croix-des-Bouquets commune,” she declared.

 On Friday, July 19, 2013, the Feed the Future West/WINNER project and the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) inaugurated seven irrigation pumps in La Tremblay 5 in the Croix-des-Bouquets commune in the presence of association leaders, Cul-de-Sac farmers, as well as representatives of the Western Departmental Directorate of MARNDR and of USAID.

 These pumps, which had not been working for several years, were renovated thanks to USAID financing through its FTF West/WINNER project. The ultimate goal of this effort is to support the Ministry of Agriculture’s policy of boosting agricultural production by enabling farmers in the Cul-de-Sac plain to gain access to irrigation water in order to increase the amount of land under cultivation.

  The Chanpyon Cooperatives of Mirebalais (COPACMI) and Saut d'Eau (COPACSE) officially opened their doors on July 9and 10, 2013, in the presence of more than one hundred members and guests such as the municipal representatives, CASEC, ASEC, and other personalities of both communities. Like the other three cooperatives (Cul-de-Sac, Matheux, and Kenscoff/Petion-Ville) that the Feed the Future West/WINNER project helped create, COPACMI and COPACSE received a donation in materials and equipment.

 It is necessary, considering important risks caused by hydro meteorological and geotechnical threats, that roles and responsibilities be identified, assigned and known by all actors in order to correctly attend and respond to the population’s needs. Therefore, after several working sessions with members of the Civil Protection Committee, private sector, public institutions, the Communal Section Committees (ASEC) and associations in the Commune of St Marc, Feed the Future West/WINNER elaborated a Contingency Plan for the Commune of St Marc.

It was a colorful CRDD, with agricultural products carefully exhibited in tents that hosted an open house on Friday, June 28, 2013. This activity was an initiative of the Regional Office of Cul-de-Sac, in collaboration with the Chanpyon Cooperatives of the Matheux, Cul-de-Sac and Kenscoff/Petion-Ville. The event’s main objective was to promote agricultural production and marketing of agricultural products, and it falls within the Haitian Government’s strategies to boost domestic production.
