The 2013 spring agricultural campaign begins in the Cul-de-Sac plain

On Friday, March 22, 2013, at La Tremblay, a locality east of the Haitian capital, the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), in collaboration with the Feed The Future West/WINNER project (FTF West/WINNER), opened the 2013 spring agricultural campaign. Members of the private sector, representatives of local municipalities, representatives of USAID, and about 600 farmers that work in the Cul-de-Sac plain were present at the event.

On March 8, 2013, at the invitation of the Fanm Kenbe Fèm of St-Marc, a women organization working in Barrière Rouge in the Pierre Payen communal section in the Matheux Corridor, the Feed the Future West/WINNER project participated in International Women’s Day celebration.  The guest list was composed, among others, of Mr. Maxo Marc Bazin, the Mayor of St-Marc, and of representatives of Fondasyon pou Defann Dwa Peyizan Ayisyen (FDDPA) regrouping 14 women associations.

DHL International and an association from Furcy collaborate to promote vertical and protected agriculture

On February 23, 2013, and in a very convivial atmosphere, members of DHL in Haiti volunteered to build a greenhouse for the benefit of an associaiton in Furcy—it should be noted that the greenhouse was also financed by DHL.  Through the Feed the Future West/WINNER project (FTF West/WINNER), and in partnership with the University of Florida, 21 associations located in the Kenscoff area have already built 114 greenhouses that are equiped with a drip irrigation system.  This protected and vertical agricultural technique can generate more revenues in a smaller space (70m2), while liberating space on the slopes for the implementation of soil conservation and agro forestry activities.

Inauguration of the Rural Center for Sustainable Development (CRDD) in Kenscoff

On Thursday, January 24, 2013, US Ambassador to Haiti, Mrs. Pamela White, inaugurated the Rural Center for Sustainable Development (CRDD) in Kenscoff with the assistance of the Minister for the Promotion of Peasantry, Mrs. Marie Mimose Félix.

 Built in Obléon, in the commune of Kenscoff, and funded by the United States government through its Agency for International Development, USAID, the Center includes a training room that can hold up to 35 people, administrative offices, and a farm with flower and vegetable demonstration plots.

Launch of a series of community meetings to support the elaboration of a zoning plan for the Croix-des-Bouquets commune

The first in a series of community gatherings that will lead to the elaboration of a zoning plan for the Croix-des-Bouquets commune was held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 in the conference room of the municipality of Croix-des-Bouquets.

These gatherings are a follow-up to a workshop organized on November 19 and 20, 2012 at the Karibe Convention Center to present the Cul-de-Sac watershed development plan and the plain zoning plan. They aim to enable local elected officials and the community to understand, debate and take ownership of the important issues related to the commune's zoning plan, with a view to enhancing local development planning.
