On Wednesday, September 26, 2012 the USAID Feed the Future West/WINNER project proceeded with the distribution of 66 silos to 40 agricultural associations (21 associations of the Cul de Sac plain and 19 associations in the Matheux corridor). The purpose of this distribution is to support farmers who have applied the prescribed technical itineraries during the last two seasons with post-harvest operations. On 27 July 2012, Mr. Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR),  Mr. Rodolphe Jaar, General Director of ANAPAAAH (Association Nationale des Producteurs Agricoles pour l'Avancement de l'Agriculture Haïtienne), and Mr. Jean-Robert Estimé, Director of USAID/WINNER, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Emergency Program for the Rehabilitation of the Rivière Blanche Drainage and Irrigation Systems. Rivière Blanche is one of the rivers irrigating the Cul-de-Sac Plain.

It is necessary to identify, determine the roles and responsibilities of all actors involved in the mitigation of risks related to hydrometeorologic disasters (floods, hurricanes, high winds, climate changes, landslides, etc.) and geotechnics (earthquakes, tsunamis, etc) for coherent and rapid response.  In this context, USAID/WINNER has prepared a Contingency Plan for the Commune of Arcahaie, in collaboration with members of the Civil Protection Committee, private sector, state institutions, ASECS and associations working in the commune.

USAID/WINNER participates to the « Annual Saut d’Eau Agricultural and Crafts Fair—Expo » held on 13 and 14 July 2012

The town of Saut d'Eau, located in the lower Plateau Central, is particularly important to Haiti.  In 1848, Our Lady of Mont-Carmel appeared at Ville-Bonheur; and since, on 16 July during the feast day, thousands of pilgrims from all over the country and abroad come to Saut d'Eau to pray to Our Lady.   The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the South and the Civil Society Initiative (ISC) contacted USAID/WINNER and invited the project to participate to the annual Fair-Expo in Saut d'Eau.  In fact, on the eve of feast days, the population is very receptive to this type of activity.   And also, with the new roads built in the West and North Departments and inter connecting the region with the Dominican Republic, Saut d'Eau has become an important economic and social development pole in the region.
